Into the Woods

Into the Woods by Lyn Gardner is about Storm, Aurora, and Any Eden, who live in an old house right outside the woods. Their parents don’t pay much attention to them because their mother is always in bed “protecting her beauty” and the father is always off on an adventure to find odd creatures. One day, their mother is on her deathbed, and, without anyone else looking, gives Storm a tin pipe and tells her to make sure no one else gets it. Soon, the evil Dr. DeWilde tries to get to it, and Storm and her sisters flee into the woods. Wild adventures follow!

I loved this book. I really like books that are twisted fairy tales or have traces of fairy tales, and this one definitely did. (I would say how, but it would give parts of the book away!) The book is pretty action packed and unpredictable, and very original. It was a bit long for my liking (almost 500 pages), but that was the only thing I didn’t like about it. I think girls would enjoy this book more, but boys should still try it. This book is on a 5th-7th grade reading level.

P.S. There is a sequel called Out of the Woods.
