The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: The Mysterious Howling

This book is about a 15 year old girl named Penelope. She had just graduated from the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females, and had come to a house called Ashton Place for a job interview. She was going to be a governess. The lady who lived at Ashton Place seemed desperate, and gave Penelope the job. She led her out to the barn. There were strange howling noises coming out from it, and Penelope was confused. Wasn’t she here to take care of children?

The lady opened the door of the barn. Inside were three children, a little girl, and two boys. They were howling and nipping and barking. They are acting like wolves, Penelope thought. The lady explained that her husband had found them in the forest on a hunting trip, and that they assumed the children were raised by wolves. Penelope was supposed to teach the children how to do things that most people can do by age 2, like talk and eat normal food. This book is all about Penelope and the three wild children that she takes care of, and the adventures they go on.

This book is on a 3rd-5th grade reading level, but is enjoyable to everyone. And don’t you just love the cover illustration?
